Personal Information

The inspiration and motivation for studying in Engineering

After I had graduated from high school and then I decided to study in Engineering because I was interested in studying in Mathematics and Physics and I wanted to enhance my knowledge of these subjects. The starting point of my selected specialization was the summer vacation of the third year of my undergraduate degree. At that time, I was interning at the Thai Yazaki Electric Wire Company Limited, which is a multinational corporation that manufactures electric wire and cable and including low and high power distribution cable to the control cable and Instrumentation of cable. That internship led me to have an opportunity to use CAD (Computer-aided design) software that is Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor. From that point, I decided to enrol in some subjects, that are related to CAD software in order to gain more knowledge, during the final year of my undergraduate degree. My turning point had occurred when I was studying SolidWorks and including Autodesk AutoCAD because I have found that I always enjoy while using tools to create those models. One of the key influences on encouragement to select my specialization is getting a promotion from the subject coordinator to use the model of my group project to represent his training course for SolidWorks. My group project at that time is “the rescue boat model” by using SolidWorks. This model was developed in order to enhance an effective rescue to the sufferers through the water. Another important thing that can influence my decision is my engineering graduate project, which is “the development of a chipper shredder machine”. If referred to this graduate project, it was a requirement of the dean of engineering faculty at my university to make this machine in an alternative way (A development the chipper shredder machine by using the chains for chainsaw instead of the standard chains) for donation to a local community. My task at that time related to creating a 3D model in order to provide to mechanics and then built it by receiving the research funding from my university. Consequently, my graduate project could get outstanding research results for my university in 2014. From these factors, these all made me intend to select my future work that is related to CAD software.

Key influences on selecting specialization for future employment

After I completed my Bachelor's degree and worked at “Pro-finish., co.ltd” (The multinational corporation, which has the headquarters in Switzerland, produces bracelet of watches especially stainless steel bracelet by taking the order from luxury brands in the famous countries especially the Swiss brands), I was employed as a design engineer in the design engineering department which used CAD software (Autodesk AutoCAD) and Autodesk Inventor. At that time, I had more opportunities to increase abilities of my core skills during working, thereby using the 3D model to create the production processes which started from the beginning to the ending processes. I also had more opportunities to create the whole processes from several luxury brands such as Baume & Mercier (B&M), Bvlgari, Ulysse Nardin, Omega, Louis Vuitton, Panerai, Tudor, Longines, TAG Heuer, IWC, Hublot, Mont Blanc, Tiffany & Co, Girard-Perregaux (GP) and Carl F. Bucherer. However, my duty often responded to the brand of Bvlgari rather than other brands because my ex-boss said each brand has its own conditions that can limit the number of staff to work, such as the cost from the customer and the abilities of each staff. Regarding my experiences, the most impressive for me is working on Omega brand that I could design the prototype of the whole production process before sending it to manufacture in another country. During working there, an important thing, that I could learn, is CAD software only being the first step in the design engineering field because it can only create 3D models or develop the models to use at the production. In contrast, Computer-aided engineering (CAE) software can transfer the models from CAD software to analyse these models by simulating real-world conditions based on the objective for each model. In my opinion, the second step of design engineering is learning another core technical skills which are related to CAE software such as ANSYS.

To summarize, I decided to resign from my ex-job in order to continue to improve my core skills. Furthermore, I have realized that there is not too much expertise in ANSYS software, especially the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) field in Thailand. Therefore, I have decided to come to study a postgraduate degree in aboard at the University of Technology Sydney and I am currently using ANSYS Fluent software to work on my graduate project. In terms of my future employment, I intend to continue to work on the design engineering field by using my core skills from both CAD and CAE software to gain more experience from this field and I would like to learn more technical skills that are related to both CAD and CAE software.
